The Benalmádena International Short Film and Alternative Cinema Festival has been held in this town in the province of Malaga annually since 1998.

This event aims to present films that do not get to the mainstream cinemas, a different, alternative kind of cinema that distances itself from common stereotypes. It also serves as a showcase for new filmmakers who are trying to break into the world of film through their shorts. The short and feature length film sections in the festival are complemented by other film projections presented outside the competition. Each year, the work of recognised artists on the Spanish and international scenes is rewarded.
