Chances are that you might have traveled on a cable car before, but watch out for the difference when you opt for the cable car trip to Mount Tiede. This is unquestionable one of the most breathtaking rides in the world. Your journey begins at a height of 2,356 meters above sea level and ends at a height of 2,482 meters above sea level. For the uninitiated, Mount Tiede is the highest in Spain. Apart from this is the third highest volcano in the world. The entire journey takes just eight minutes. Do not forget to stare down during the journey for some awesome views.
If you so want, you can trek to the top of the peak, though that will take you approximately five hours. Obviously, the air is thinner at the top and the temperature is cooler as well. However, you should not miss this journey, especially if you love rocks. You will see them in all types of sizes and shapes during your journey to the peak. The cable car’s top station provides you with the opportunity to view some spectacular sights. The main summit is around 200 meters higher from the top station of the cable car and you can reach the same in less than an hour.
However, you need a special permit to access the peak, since access is strictly controlled. It is suggested that you take this trip on a clear day, since that will provide you with the opportunity to view all the other Canary Islands. The cable car trips run daily from 9am to 4pm, weather permitting. As mentioned above, you need a special permit to access the top of the peak, however, there are no restrictions for visiting La Fortazela & Pico Viejo, both of which are excellent lookout spots.
