When the neighbors of the small Murcia village of Lo Ferro decided to celebrate their summer festival with a flamenco evening in 1980, they could never have imagined the scope of that event. Thirty-two years later, the town gives its name to one of the ineludible festivals on the flamenco scene. From 27/08/2012 to 02/09/2012.
The origins of the Lo Ferro International Cante Flamenco Festival take us back to year 1980, when a group of citizens of a typical small village in the land of Cartagena, called Lo Ferro -with just 30 inhabitants-, included a cante jondo contest within the festivity programme, inviting several flamenco singers. A stage was created, a jury was formed and diverse prizes were established for the occasion: the first prize was 10,000 pesetas and a commemorative plaque.
