The San Javier International Jazz Festival was born in 1998 as the result of the efforts and enthusiasm of a group of jazz fans.
It has evolved into one of the most important cultural events in the Murcia region, and has achieved national and international importance. Every year the festival brings the public the most significant figures of the jazz world, as well as artists from other musical genres such as blues, soul, bossa nova and funk.
Top jazz acts from across the world congregate in pint-sized San Javier to perform the International Jazz Festival. The Murcian town sits close to the Mar Menor, a huge salty lagoon separated from the Mediterranean by a 22km sand bar.
