On the first Saturday of September thousands of neighbours will be out on the streets confronting each other in the famous battle of Romans against Carthaginians, all this on the Es Pouet Beach in the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany. This confrontation has turned into a fun-filled tradition, recalling how the Carthaginians of Sant Antoni confronted Saint Augustine’s Romans on the sands of the beach. All the neighbours in the municipality dress up as warriors from an ancient time, constructing their weapons in cardboard to thus emulate in a friendly manner the battle between the opponents of this classic period.
